NAB Records Highest Ever Recovery. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recorded its highest recovery ever in 2025. The bureau recovered Rs. 6.213 trillion, which is the largest annual recovery in its history. This major achievement was shared by NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Ahmed during a meeting with Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House. Ishaq Dar was also present during the briefing, where NAB’s full performance report for the year was presented.

Land Recovery and Return of Public Money

A large portion of the recovery came from land cases. NAB successfully recovered 2.98 million acres of state and forest land worth around Rs. 5.99 trillion. This land was illegally occupied and wrongly used for personal benefit. In addition, NAB recovered Rs. 180 billion from fake housing societies and fraudulent investment schemes. This amount was returned to 115,587 affected citizens, providing financial relief and restoring public confidence in state institutions.

Use of Technology and Government Support

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated NAB’s improved performance and praised the use of AI-assisted investigations and the e-office system. These modern tools helped speed up investigations, reduce paperwork, and improve transparency. The prime minister also reaffirmed full support for NAB’s professional independence and emphasized the importance of protecting national resources through strong accountability measures.

Public Engagement and Trust Building

NAB has improved public access through initiatives like the NAB Open Court and the Central Complaint Cell, which allow citizens to submit complaints easily. These steps reduced fear and improved communication between the public and the institution. As a result, NAB is now seen more as a platform for grievance redressal rather than intimidation, helping rebuild trust between citizens and the state.

Conclusion

The recovery of Rs. 6.213 trillion in 2025 marks a historic milestone for NAB. Through land recovery, return of stolen money, modern reforms, and better public engagement, the bureau showed strong progress toward transparency and accountability. If these efforts continue, they can further strengthen public trust and protect Pakistan’s national resources.
